You can now enable Apple ProRes on iPhone 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max! All you need to do is update to iOS 15.1 Beta 3 and enable this new feature in the camera settings menu. The public release of iOS 15.1 is expected next week, likely on Tuesday, October 12th alongside watchOS 8.1 and Apple Watch Series 7!
What is Apple ProRes?
This is a professional video format used by video professionals for post-production editing.

This feature may not be popular among the average iPhone user, especially since ProRes videos require a lot of storage space.
According to Apple, one minute of 10-bit HDR ProRes (4K) takes up approximately 1.7GB of storage space!

Limitation: In fact, the Apple ProRes feature is limited to 30fps at 1080p on iPhone 13 Pro models with just 128GB of storage space!
How to enable ProRes
- 1. Open settings and tap Camera .
- 2. Go to the Formats available at the top of the list.
- 3. Turn on the Apple ProRes , in the section Video capture .
How to record videos in ProRes
Once activated, simply open the app camera stock, slide to Video and start recording. The Apple ProRes format will be used to capture your footage.
Apple ProRes not available?
First, make sure your iPhone has been updated to iOS 15.1 or later. You can do this in Settings -> General -> About -> Software Version
Secondly, be aware that ProRes is currently only available on the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max. Any other iOS 15 compatible iPhone will not have the option in the camera settings!
