Here's how to create contact posters on your iPhone in iOS 17 and later.

Contact Posters is a feature that lets you customize exactly what appears on someone's iPhone when you call them. It lets you create a custom contact card to control what people see on their phone when you call them. You can create a contact poster by taking a photo or using one from your camera roll.

You can also create a contact poster using your Memoji (if you prefer). If you don't like pasting your face or avatar on someone else's phone, you can opt for a more discreet monogram design.

If you want to use this feature, you'll need to be running iOS 17 or later.

How to Create an iPhone Contact Poster with a Photo

If you want to use a photo of yourself or some other photo in your contact card, you can create a contact poster by taking a photo or using one from your camera roll.

To create a contact poster with a photo on your iPhone:

  1. Open the Contacts application.
  2. At the top of the contact list, tap My card.
  3. Touch Contact photo and poster.
  4. From the current contact poster options, tap To edit.
  5. To edit one of the current options, tap Customize.

  8. To take a photo to use with your contact poster, tap Camera.
  9. To switch between the front and rear cameras, tap the To spin icon.

  13. If you prefer to use an existing photo, tap Photos instead of Camera.

  16. For photos taken in Portrait mode on iPhone, you can select between Natural, gradient backdrop, seamless background, mono seamless background, overprint, studio, black and white, colorful background, dual tone, It is Color wash.
  17. Pinch the image to resize it and use two fingers to drag it to the desired position.
  18. To edit the color of the selected style, tap Color icon.
  19. Select one of the available colors or use the slider to change the shade of the selected color.
  20. To edit the font, tap its name.
  21. Select one of the font options and use the slider to change the width of the letters. You can also change the font color and hue.
  22. When you're satisfied with your contact poster, tap Done.
  23. You will see a preview of your contact poster. Touch Continue if you are happy or tap To go back to make any changes.
  24. You can also update your contact photo by tapping To update.
  25. You can touch Cut to adjust the size or Customize photo to choose a completely different image or make edits.
  26. Alternatively, tap To jump to make no changes to your current contact photo.
  27. Your contact poster is now saved. You can touch To edit if you want to make any changes.

How to Create an iPhone Contact Poster with a Memoji

You can also create a contact poster using your Memoji avatar. You can create a Memoji on your iPhone or iPad and use it as an image for your contact poster. If you haven't created one yet, you can also do so during the process of creating your contact poster.

To create an iPhone contact poster with a Memoji:

  1. Start the Contacts application.
  2. Touch My card at the top of the contact list.
  3. Touch Contact photo and poster.
  4. Select To edit in the current contact poster options.
  5. To edit a current contact poster, tap Customize.
  6. Select Poster.
  7. Alternatively, tap + (more) icon to create a new contact poster.
  8. Select Memoji.
  9. Choose one of your current Memoji or tap + (more) icon to create a new one.
  10. Tap options to edit your skin, hairstyle, eyebrows, eyes, head, nose, mouth, ears, facial hair, glasses, headgear and clothes.
  11. When you're satisfied with your Memoji, tap Done.
  12. Select one of the preset poses or tap the camera icon to create a custom facial expression.
  13. Make the face you want to use while looking at the front camera and your Memoji will imitate it.
  14. Tap the blue Camera button to record facial expression.
  15. After making your selection, tap Next.
  16. Your Memoji contact poster has been created.
  17. You can tap the Color icon to change the background color.
  18. Tap your Name to edit the font and font color.
  19. Tap Memoji icon to choose a different Memoji.
  20. When you're happy, tap Done.
  21. Preview your poster and tap Continue if you are happy or To go back to make changes.
  22. Edit your contact photo by tapping Cut or Choose a different photo and selecting Continue when you are happy.
  23. If you don't want to use Memoji as the contact's photo, tap To jump.
  24. Your contact poster has been saved. You can see a preview of what it will look like.

How to Create an iPhone Contact Poster with a Monogram

If you don't want to use a photo or avatar on your contact poster to maintain a level of anonymity, you can create a monogram. This will only show your initials rather than any images.

To create an iPhone contact poster with a monogram:

  1. Open Contacts.
  2. Touch My card.
  3. Select Contact photo and poster.
  4. Touch To edit.
  5. To edit your contact poster, tap Customize.
  6. Select Poster.
  7. Alternatively, tap + (more) icon to create a contact poster from scratch.
  8. Select Monogram.
  9. To change the color of the contact poster, tap the Color icon.
  10. Select a color and use the slider to change the darkness, or tap the Color picker to choose your own color.
  11. To change the monogram, tap Monogram icon in the bottom right corner and edit the lyrics.
  12. Tap your Name to edit the source.
  13. Select a font, font weight, and font color.
  14. Once you are satisfied with your monogram, select Done.
  15. Preview your contact poster and tap Continue to keep it, or To go back to make further edits.
  16. Touch Continue to use the monogram as your contact photo, or tap To jump to leave it unchanged.
  17. Your contact poster has been saved. You'll see a preview of it on the Contact Photo and Poster page.
