Why iPhone won't charge and how to identify the problem?

Diagnosing the damage that is preventing your phone from receiving a charge may take some time, as there are many possibilities that could cause the defect.

They exist various reasons why your iPhone won't charge. Let’s get to know the main reasons now.

Defective charger

It is easier to notice wear on cables Lightning, because the damage become more visible. However, if any of the extremities of the USB cable is worn , your charger may lose its function.

However, if there is no apparent damage to the outside of the cable, try connect it at a door computer USB , instead of the iPhone wall adapter.

If Lightning works, it means the problem is not the cable.

Another easy way is borrow a cable for a friend. It's interesting to test more than one charger, if not even your friend's charger can charge your cell phone.

If your iPhone charges, the problem may be with your cable or the wall adapter. To check the adapter, simply to connect the Lightning to another source of energy.

Oh! OK test the outlet itself really, see? Sometimes the wall outlets are not working as they should. You can test it by connecting another electronic product.

Non-original cables

Apple is one of the companies that suffers most from counterfeits in the world, mainly in the technology sector.

Counterfeit accessories are cheaper, but the bill may be more expensive in the end. That's because they do not have a guarantee and the lifespan theirs is usually smaller than that of an original cable.

The products not approved , i.e, without certification from Apple, do not cut the power when the device is fully charged. This overloads the battery and can cause electrical discharges.

These energy discharges, caused by overheating , can cause irreversible damage to your iPhone and your health.

There have been reports of people being injured by explosions from non-original devices and chargers. That's why, always opt for certified materials.

Dirty charging port

It's common for us to put our iPhone in our pants pocket. jeans, thrown into the bag that was full of cookie crumbs… I knew that these little dirt they can compromise loading of the cell phone?

This is because some residue, such as hair or lint from clothes, may be disturbing the cable entry and preventing a solid connection between charger and device.

In this case, with a new, dry toothbrush, brush gently the charging port. Test charging the iPhone to see if that was the problem.

It may be that the charging port is still blocked, but by a residue that does not come out with the brush, such as liquids , which we will talk about next.

Liquid damage

Liquids, when in contact with the device, can cause short in connections. To make it easier to discover the problem, Apple has had LCI technology since 2006.

LCI is the abbreviation in English for Liquid Contact Indicators. The device is activated if there is contact with elements containing water.

Naturally, the LCI is white or silver, but if liquid is detected, it changes to red color. The device is found on the side of the iPhone.

Liquid damage are not covered by warranty Apple. This means that, if this is the problem, it will be inevitable to send the device for repair.

Software problems

Sometimes the iPhone won't charge because the software he is in the background and the screen turns off. In this case, just reset the device so that it works again.

To start, leave your cell phone charging for half an hour. Then, carry out the restart. It may be different for iPhone models:

  • Up to generation 6S: Press the home button and side button at the same time for 10 seconds until the Apple logo appears.
  • iPhone 7 or iPhone 7 Plus: Hold the side button and volume down button for 10 seconds.
  • iPhone 8 or later: Press the volume up button for a few seconds and release. Repeat the action with the volume down button and then press and hold the side button until the Apple symbol appears.

If the problem is not resolved, consult specialized technical assistance or check your operating conditions. guarantee at Apple.

Battery problems

Defects caused by the battery go beyond charging. As time passes, it is normal for her to begin to last less.

If your iPhone won't charge because of the battery, the device will probably give some signals before stopping charging, e.g. turning off by itself without having a dead battery.

The system usually warns you that you should change the battery. If she is swollen or overheating , look for a professional to check and, if necessary, replace the battery.

How to solve the problem of your iPhone not charging?

You can leave your iPhone on DFU mode (Device Firmware Update, in English). As it resets the entire phone, do a backup beforehand and save it in a safe place.

However, this mode is an interesting measure for when the simplest reset mode does not work.

Firstly pPress the start and sleep buttons for 7 seconds. Release one of the buttons and hold the other for another 10 seconds.

Click on Restore option when it appears on the screen. If you do not detect a problem with the software, the defect is another.

Once you understand why your iPhone won't charge, first find out if the problem is covered by Apple warranty. If not, look for trained professionals.

In fact, if it's time to change your iPhone's battery, look for a store that has a warranty and always choose specialized technical assistance, an authorized one or the Apple Store.

However, the same tip applies if you have to buy another charger. Buy from a reputable place and look for certificates from Anatel and Apple.
